Under close supervision, assists with routine small and medium-sized Engineering projects including layout and design, specification development and preparation, new product evaluation, and data collection to support operations or the Engineering unit at assigned site.
* Assembles data and assists with problem-solving requiring basic theories and Engineering fundamentals
* Utilizes computer programs to solve Engineering problems
* Assists with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized Engineering projects
* Assists with specification development or preparation
* Assists with technical evaluation of equipment and material
* Assists in maintaining accurate and current project documentation
* May perform as a member of a survey or GPS mapping crew
* Performs other duties as required
*Minimum Qualifications*
* One (1) year of experience in an Engineering or Technical area relevant to the assignment
* Knowledge of specialized equipment, methods and techniques appropriate to assignment, including GIS/GPS mapping techniques
* Skill in safely using, maintaining and repairing specialized equipment to complete assigned projects
* Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
* Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
* Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
*Preferred*
* High School diploma or GED
* One (1) year of experience in the mining industry
* Experience working with slope stability monitoring equipment, and in safely deploying, maintaining and repairing slope stability instrumentation
* Skilled and proficient in monitoring equipment data validation and troubleshooting
* Experience working with drill crews and contractors
*Criteria/Conditions*
* Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
* Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
* Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
* Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
* Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
* May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
* Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
* Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws
